How the race is making a positive impact
100% carbon offset
Since 2019, the event’s greenhouse emissions have been fully offset through the Livelihoods Carbon Fund.
Clothes recycling
In 2023, 5.4 metric tons of clothes collected at the event were recycled or donated to charities and 422 pairs of running shoes were collected for the Africa Run charity.
Zero food waste
100% of surplus food from the 2023 event was donated to Le Chaînon Manquant and Restos du Cœur charities.
A race of solidarity
€905,000 was raised through charity bibs on the Dossards Solidaires platform in 2023.
Diversity and inclusion
For French para-marathon runners, the Paris Marathon doubles as the country’s para-athletics championships where they can qualify for the Paralympics.
Gender equality
Both male and female winners share the podium, get the same live media coverage, and receive equal prize money.

Inspiring future generations
The Génération Marateens program promotes running among children aged 7–12. It includes runs every Wednesday one month before the marathon, workshops with professional athletes, and a series of sports and educational sessions about healthy lifestyle and the importance of fair play.
More than just a race
The Paris Marathon organizers are one of the original signatories of the charter of 15 eco-responsible commitments for sporting events, established in 2017 by the French Ministry of Sports and WWF France. This means that the event supports all aspects of sustainable development: economic, social, and environmental.
