Do APC Network Management Cards (and Network Management Card embedded devices - Rack PDU, etc) support 1000mbps Ethernet connections?

Issue

Do APC Network Management Cards (and Network Management Card embedded devices - Rack PDU, etc) support 1000mbps (AKA Gigabit) Ethernet connections? How about 10000mbps (10GBe connections)?

Environment
  • 1000mbps/10000mbps (1GB/10GBe) networking environments
  • All firmware versions
  • All serial numbers
Cause

Many users are upgrading their networking environments and looking to understand if APC Network Management Card devices support 1GB/10GB Ethernet connections.

Resolution

APC Network Management Card enabled devices support 10/100mbps Ethernet connections. Generally, 1GB Ethernet switches will support 100mbps (either by auto-negotation or configuration modification) but 10GB switches will not. Though, sometimes vendors offer special hardware modules that can provide 100mbps capability for 10GB Ethernet Switches.

It is suggested that users can check the documentation on their networking equipment to find out if the equipment is capable of 10mbps or more commonly 100mbps and how it can be accomplished. If it can, then APC Network Management Cards will operate normally in a 100mbps environment.
