A vacuum circuit breaker (VCB) is a power distribution device that switches and interrupts current during load or fault conditions to isolate high power sources and help manage safe and reliable power distribution.

  • VCBs are used within switchgear enclosures together with protection relays for MV applications in power distribution systems.
  • In a Vacuum CB, current flow is interrupted in a vacuum chamber with a high insulation dielectric strength to minimize the arc energy created by switching of up to 24 kV.
