Understanding the 6606 I/O Module Power Requirements

Under the 6606 IO module power supply specifications below:

6606 IO power supply

The SCADAPack 47x and 47xi has a 5V power supply used to provide power for Serial ports, USB host and IO expansion modules.

5V Bus Power Consumption

The 6606 IO module requires 0.28 Amps (A) at 5 Volts (V) from the controller's 5V power supply. This equates to a power consumption of 1.4 Watts (W) (calculated as 5V * 0.28A = 1.4W). This information is crucial for determining the total load on the controller's 5V supply. By knowing this, you can assess whether the controller's existing power supply is sufficient or if an additional 6103 power supply module is needed to support the 6606 IO module along with other connected devices.

12-24V SCADAPack Power Consumption

The 5V power consumption is correlated to the controller's 12-24V power input. The 1.4W consumed by the 6606 IO module from the 5V supply will result in a power draw of 1.6W from the controller's main 12-24V power input. This figure of 1.6W (excluding analog outputs) helps in selecting an appropriately sized main power supply for the entire control system.

If you are using the analog outputs of the 6606 IO module, there are additional power requirements to consider. The analog outputs require 10 milliamps (mA) plus up to 20 mA per output, directly at the 6606 IO module. For instance, if both analog outputs are used at their maximum of 20 mA each, and the system is operating at 24 Vdc, an additional 1.2W needs to be accounted for. This additional power draw increases to 1.5W if the input voltage is 30 Vdc. This additional power for analog outputs needs to be added to the base 1.6W when determining the total system power requirements if analog outputs are in use.
