The Residential Controls business within the Schneider Electric group is a global provider of devices used to control heating, hot water, humidity and cooling in domestic and small commercial installations and is expanding into the world of Smart Products. The business is investing heavily in new product design, market expansion and further development of existing markets. Location: You will be working from home with occasional travels to our site in Plymouth, so ideally you should be based in the South of England. You will be working closely with Schneider R&D teams in the UK and across the world.
What we are looking for
An Electronics Engineering Manager who will join our R&D Engineering department that develops and sustains internet-connected and non-connected residential heating control products. Reporting to the business’ Engineering Director, this person will lead the electronics team and will be an integral part of the engineering management team.
Provide team leadership in research, design, development, prototyping, testing, and delivery of electronic product hardware to volume-manufacture
Develop high performance engineering team, drive goal setting, coaching, and training
Guide the team to embrace an innovative approach to problem solving and design implementation
Develop project plans including timescales, development and direct factory cost estimates. Identify, own, mitigate, and manage risks and dependencies
Assist with budget and resource-level planning, optimize the team structure to maximize output and efficiency of the team
Support new product business cases with cost estimates, feasibility studies, options and recommendations
Manage processes and guidelines; identify and implement improvements
Ensure collaboration with cross-functional teams — Mechanical, Firmware, Test, Quality, Manufacturing Operations, and Product Management
Collaborate with design partners and vendors in China, Europe, and Africa to monitor progress, resolve issues, and approve deliverables
Oversee verification and validation to demonstrate performance, safety, reliability, and compliance to world-wide standards
Provide technical support to Operations to manage obsolescence, manufacturer selection and contract negotiation, optimization of assembly and test processes
Degree in electronics engineering; master’s degree, chartership desirable
Significant product development experience gained through team leadership, engineering management, and technical project management
Experience in leading circuit schematics, PCB layout, DFMEA, verification and validation testing
Demonstrable technical knowledge from several years of hands-on design and development
Deep experience in analogue and digital electronics, embedded systems, 32-bit microcontrollers, display technologies, mains power converters, RF design
Strong understanding of design for reliability, manufacturability, testability, assembly, EMC, and cost
Thorough knowledge of compliance standards, directives, and tests
Proven ability to identify and manage ambiguity, risks, and dependencies
Remain engaged and positive in challenging circumstances, owning projects and taking full accountability for team success
Possess strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
