The history of our location in Lahr
The history of the location, which also bears the nickname "House of Motors," dates back to 1941, when Gerhard Berger founded the Berger Lahr company here in the Black Forest. The first products were measuring instruments, control devices and relays. In 1958, the first Berger Lahr stepping motor was built. Over the decades, the company expanded its production area to include the development and manufacture of electronics. In 2000, Schneider Electric took over the company, whereby the company remained independent for the time being. In 2008, Berger Lahr changed its name to Schneider Electric Motion Deutschland GmbH. Since 2013, the Lahr location and the Marktheidenfeld location have formed the Schneider Electric Automation GmbH.

On the area of more than 100 hectares of the former military training area of the Canadians, a landscape rich in species has developed. With its special ecological status, the popular hiking area promises relaxing hours in a unique nature with breathtaking views. Unique in the Black Forest and a very special experience for visitors and locals is the Sulzbachtal water trail. A 4.5 kilometer adventurous path along the Sulzbach stream leads over footbridges and stepping stones past rare plants and animals. Here, numerous animal species can be observed in their natural habitat. Visitors are accompanied by the six friends stone crab, kingfisher, caddis fly, fire salamander, dragonfly and bullhead. In Lahr's city park on the other hand, there is a garden show all year round: Daffodils and tulips in spring, rhododendrons and azaleas in May, roses in June, colorful flowers in summer and a southern atmosphere under palm trees, dahlias and hydrangeas in autumn. It is an exceptional garden with remarkable trees, rare plants and the rose garden known beyond the region. Our location is in the middle of the 2018 State Garden Show area. The Ortenau Bridge leads there directly from the Schneider Electric entrance and invites you to take a walk during breaks.

In 2018, the new city museum opened in a former clay kiln factory in Lahr's historic city center. Designed in 1896 by Lahr architect Carl Meurer for factory owner C. F. Liermann, the industrial building is now under monument protection. The focus lies on the history of Lahr and its districts. The permanent exhibition extends over three floors. The hammer mill in Lahr-Reichenbach, whose history dates back to 1730, is a cultural-historical gem. The monument location invites visitors on impressive guided tours to take a journey into the region's past.
