Egypt's Mediterranean Offshore Conference aims to encourage energy investment as it kicks off Tuesday in Alexandria

  • Schneider Electric's Vice President of Energy says Egypt has great potential to be a Mediterranean energy hub.

Cairo – April 16, 2018

The Mediterranean Offshore Conference, Egypt's key energy gathering focusing on offshore oil and gas industry, is kicking off in the coastal city of Alexandria on Tuesday with the aim of promoting energy investment opportunities in Egypt and across the region.

Schneider Electric, a global specialist in energy management and automation, is taking part in the three-day international gathering, which runs from April 17 through April 19.

Schneider will be showcasing its latest energy management solutions and offering a glimpse of an array of energy projects it has carried out in Egypt in recent years.

MOC 2018 is sponsored by the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and is organized in partnership with the Offshore Mediterranean Conference (OMC) of Ravenna, Italy.

The conference is aimed to address investment opportunities in Egypt and across the region and promote international cooperation in developing the country's oil and gas industry.

Khaled Kamel, Schneider Electric's Vice President of Energy and Energy Director for North East Africa and the Levant, said Egypt has enormous potential to be a Mediterranean energy hub.

"Egypt has a significant role to play in the regional energy industry. The country's recent gas discoveries--including the giant new offshore Zohr gas field in the Mediterranean--are the keystone of the Mediterranean energy industry and the mainstay of Egypt's national development strategy," Kamel said.

Over 1,600 delegates, industry professionals and business executives will attend this week's event to share visions, present their researches and innovations as well as offer latest developments in exploration and production in the Mediterranean Sea.

Schneider is one of more than 600 companies taking part in the conference that is expected to draw around 11,000 visitors from around the world.
