    Considering waste as worth

We drive an ”obsession toward zero waste” across all our facilities globally. Waste minimization, reuse, recycling, and landfill avoidance have become an integral part of our plants’ and distribution centers’ performance scorecards, and we see constant progress. In 2017, we are proud to have had 130 sites receive the “Toward Zero Waste to Landfill” designation and our objective is to reach 200 sites by 2020. Our global landfill diversion rate has increased by 15 points over 10 years and reached 94% in 2017.

Schneider Electric has rolled out an Integrated Management System to ensure continuous improvement in environment (ISO 14 001), safety (ISO 45 001), energy (ISO 50 001) and quality (ISO 9 001). ISO 14001 certification helps drive continuous improvement of the environmental performance of sites. In 2017, 263 sites were certified ISO 14 001. All these sites contribute to environmental reporting and therefore to the Group’s environmental targets. 130 sites were also certified ISO 50 001 to support our energy excellence ambitions and deliver year-on-year energy productivity. Finally, ISO 45 001 enables to strengthen our safety culture and define robust safety governance.

    CO₂ efficiency in transportation

Schneider Electric is a worldwide company with operations in more than 100 countries, with a robust transport plan to connect our sites and deliver to our customers. In 2017 we shipped 2,400 kilo tons of goods, including 74% by road freight, 23% by ocean freight, and 3% by air freight. From 2015 to end-2017, we set up a new CO transport emissions reduction program, with the ambition to achieve a reduction of 10% over 3 years. At the end of 2017, we reached this target by reducing our transport CO emissions by an average of 10.3% over the 3 years. Notable actions included shifting from air to sea, load rate increase and travel route optimization. We plan to reduce our CO emissions from transport by a further 10% from 2018 – 2020.
We aspire to join hands with our suppliers in our sustainability journey.
Since 2011, sustainability performance is one of the 7 pillars to evaluate strategic suppliers, using ISO 26 000 standard. By 2020, we target a +5 pts / 100 increase in average score of these ISO 26 000 assessments.
Schneider Electric is also committed to implementing a vigilance plan to prevent severe labor, EHS and business integrity risks. By 2020, 300 suppliers will receive a specific on-site assessment.
Finally, we work with suppliers to purchase sustainable materials, track conflict minerals and phase out hazardous substances. For instance, we target to use 100% recycled or certified cardboard and pallets for transport packaging by 2020.
