Senate endorses Schneider electric developmental initiatives
Schneider Electric, the global specialist in energy management has been commended by Nigeria’s National Assembly for its efforts towards developing sustainable manpower for the nation’s Power sector. This endorsement came on the heels of a successful legislative tour of Schneider Electric’s Isaac Boro Energy Training College at Grenoble, France.
The facility tour which was organized at the instance of Nigeria's National Assembly, pursuant to the legislature's oversight functions as enshrined in Nigeria's constitution, was aimed at exposing members of the National Assembly to the progress made by the Centre’s Nigerian students as well as the Centre’s world class facilities. In attendance were the Chairman, Senate Committee on Niger Delta, Senator James Manager and his House of Representatives counterpart, Hon. Warman Ogoriba, Others include, Hon. Kingsley Kuku, Special Adviser to the Nigerian President on Niger Delta Affairs and Chairman of the Presidential Amnesty programme as well as Marcel Hochet, President and CEO of Schneider Electric English West Africa.
Speaking after the facility tour by members of the Joint Committee of the National Assembly on Niger Delta, Senator James Manager and his House of Representatives counterpart, Hon. Warman Ogoriba commended Schneider Electric on the state of the Centre’s facilities and quality of training received by its Nigerian students, describing it as a huge contribution towards fast tracking the development of Nigeria’s power sector.
Senator Manager said, “We are very happy and extremely confident with what we have seen here today. Schneider Electric has taken 3 unique firsts in the history of the program. They are the only company to name a training center after a Niger delta Icon, they have committed to employ 15 of the students immediately and have also committed to assist in placing the rest with their strong network of partners.’
In his welcome, address, Marcel Hochet, Country President of Schneider Electric Nigeria, said ‘‘Schneider Electric is committed to providing a sustainable developmental platform as evidenced in various initiatives with the Federal government, National Power training Institute and Lecan. We are happy to receive honourable members of the National Assembly to our training center and to showcase our innovative solutions which are visible in our operations.
He emphasised that Schneider Electric is committed to producing skilled energy management professionals to support the transformation of Nigeria’s power sector and commended the Federal government on her efforts and investments in training and education.
Also commenting on the visit, Hon. Kingsley Kuku, stated that “Schneider Electric has proven itself to be the most reliable of all its training partners. It has established a viable partnership with the Nigerian government in the development of the country’s power sector’’. He called on other Nigeria’s private sector companies to emulate Schneider Electric’s initiatives for a better Nigerian society and the progress of the Nigerian youths.
The National Assembly Joint Committee is in France as part of their oversight functions on agencies operating in the Niger Delta. The tour of the Schneider Electric training facility provided an opportunity for the National Assembly members to experience the company’s energy management solutions and interact with the Nigerian students at the Centre.
