As a key part of being an IP-driven and customer focused company, Pelco™ by Schneider Electric™ offers the video security industry’s broadest array of course offerings and training locations through the Pelco Global Training Institute (PGTI). To make sure our customers are at the cutting edge of technology, the PGTI team is continuously updating course content. “It’s not just to keep up with new Pelco products,” said Barbara Morgan, global training director for the Buildings Business of Schneider Electric, “it’s so that our people and our customers can keep current with the latest technological advancements in our industry.”
“Our integrator and installer customers, as well as Pelco endusers, have plenty of options to gain basic IP knowledge and certifications. PGTI, however, continues to fill a very specific niche need in our industry, by developing and delivering integrated courses that cover both IP technology and deep knowledge of video security systems,” Morgan said. PGTI continues this commitment with several new and updated IP video courses. “These courses will be of great benefit not only to traditional security installers who are still building their IT skillsets, but also for the great number of traditional IT integrators who are facing the challenges of deploying IP video security on their networks,” she said.
Let’s take a look at new IP course offerings:
IP Video Surveillance Systems: Technology, Design, and Troubleshooting
PGTI has recently updated this popular and informative course. In an industry rapidly deploying new technologies, basic principles still guide the successful deployment of surveillance systems. Attendees will learn to design and troubleshoot basic IP and hybrid video surveillance systems by selecting the correct camera for a given set of viewing circumstances, calculating field of view and resolution, determining proper cable types and distances for copper and fiber runs, and estimating storage requirements for network and attached storage arrays. Tools and techniques will be introduced for troubleshooting and ensuring compliance in IP and analog systems. (Course ID: 0427)
Sarix™ IP Camera Expert
PGTI is pleased to introduce this new course offering. This lab-intensive instructor-led course introduces techniques and tools for troubleshooting Pelco Sarix IP cameras that are also relevant in most manufacturers’ IP cameras. Students will learn fundamental IP camera concepts, Sarix software services and information-gathering methods. Students will perform diagnostic tasks with Pelco Device Utility, Endura Utilities, and Wireshark. (Course ID: 1286)
For those who want to go deeper, PGTI offers a four-course network training track, ideal for IP video system designers and integrators:
Introduction to Networks
This eLearning course includes the functions of networks, network terminology, and introduces basic concepts related to network video traffic. The course introduces IT industry network standards, IP addressing, routing protocols, and bandwidth considerations. Prerequisite: This course is recommended for students without entry-level IP knowledge. (Course ID: 0356)
Network Fundamentals for Video Security I
This course explores the foundations of networking. Key topics include network protocols, topologies, and how devices are configured to work on the network. Hands-on labs include: how data flows through the network, basic IP addressing, and tools for troubleshooting. This course is intended for those who are new to networking. (Course ID:0371)
Network Fundamentals for Video Security II
This course provides detailed instruction of networking technologies as they are applied to video security systems. Course topics include Ethernet signaling standards, advanced IP addressing, and routing of multicast traffic. Lab topics include: testing of virtual local area networks (VLANs) in a multi-switch environment, layer 3 network addressing, IP configuration, and routing unicast and multicast video transmissions. (Course ID: 0370)
Switch Configuration and Operation
This course provides an intensive hands-on introduction to the configuration and operation of Cisco and Juniper switches. Students will perform command-line configuration of Layer 2 switches and analyze the results of those configurations. Course topics include IOS commands and functions, advanced IP addressing, switch-based network design concepts and standards. Lab topics include: switch configuration and operation, administration of port security, implementing VLANs in a multi-switch environment, trunking, IP configuration, ether-channel, link aggregation, configuring IGMP snooping, and the Spanning Tree protocol. (Course ID: 0372)
