How to identify the amount of memory used by each database from SQL Server for commissioning, sizing and troubleshooting purposes.

Cause
Determining the memory consumption is required to aid in commissioning systems and/or troubleshooting performance related issues.

Resolution
*Warning: Irreparable database damage can occur. This procedure should only be performed by users familiar with SQL Server Management Studio. Databases should be backed up prior to performing this procedure.*

To retrieve the the amount of memory used by each database of current SQL Server installation, log into SQL Server Management Studio and run the attached SQL script (Memory_Used.sql).
Alternatively, execute the query(s) below :

-- Memory used by each database
SELECT DB_NAME(database_id),
COUNT (1) * 8 / 1024 AS MBUsed
FROM sys.dm_os_buffer_descriptors
GROUP BY database_id
ORDER BY COUNT (*) * 8 / 1024 DESC
GO
