Three steps to net-zero buildings
-
When beginning to design or retrofit a building for net-zero carbon, leaders across the organisation must align on a vision and path forward. It can be daunting to determine how and where to start your decarbonisation journey, which is why we work collaboratively with your team to define what success looks like. We can help with structuring your decarbonisation roadmap, understanding funding options, determining how you will communicate your commitment, and ultimately, helping get you from planning to results faster.

Building digitalisation is a crucial and fundamental step to achieving net-zero targets and creates a single source of truth for real-time energy and sustainability data. It helps you visualise and understand how you’re managing energy and processes to optimise each and see where you can save and accurately report and benchmark progress.
For new “green build” facilities, electrical design and simulation and building information modelling can be included early in the design and build phases to meet sustainability goals.
For existing buildings that need sustainable retrofits, you may need to modernise building systems with the latest digital technology. The first major action should be to assess the level of digitisation and capabilities of the building management system (BMS) and assets. We can help you assess your starting point and recommend ways to turn an old, outdated building into a smart, connected digital building equipped with the right devices and software to achieve net-zero carbon. New buildings that have just entered the "operate and maintain phase" can further optimise business and asset performance for sustainability.
-
With digitalisation in place, you can finally take action to decarbonise your building. We recommend you do this by looking at ways to electrify your building operations and reduce energy usage by understanding how and where your energy is being wasted, such as in low-occupancy areas. After you have tackled energy efficiency and reduction goals, you can start to replace carbon-intensive, fossil-fuelled energy sources with newer, greener technologies, and incorporate microgrids for the storage and management of energy generated on-site, allowing for less reliance on the grid and greater power reliability. We are accelerating sustainability for all, starting with our own net-zero targets, which have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
