B.A.A. publishes inaugural sustainability report with support from official multi-year sustainability partner Schneider Electric
The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) and Schneider Electric, the leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, today jointly announced the release of the B.A.A.’s first sustainability report. The report details the organization’s ongoing efforts to reduce environmental impact while creating safe, community-oriented athletic events that promote healthy lifestyles. This significant milestone also highlights Schneider Electric’s continued commitment to the greater Boston area, underscoring the shared vision of building a more sustainable future for the local community, digital infrastructure, and beyond.

Key highlights from the report include:

- Calculating scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions for baseline year 2023 and setting a climate target for 2030.
- Diverting 79% of waste at the 2024 Boston Marathon through a variety of initiatives such as donating more than 20 tons of clothing and 600 pairs of sneakers to local organizations.
- Engaging more than 9,000 volunteers at the 2024 Boston Marathon and celebrating 27 volunteers with more than 30 years of service in 2024.
- Raising $45.7 million by 168 nonprofit organizations in 2024 through the Bank of America Boston Marathon Official Charity Program.
- Contributing to $71.9 million in total charitable impact from the 2024 Boston Marathon presented by Bank of America and generating $500.9 million in economic activity at the state and local level.
- Hosting nine dedicated youth and community programs in 2024, serving 3,200 participants throughout the year.
