Automatic Transfer Switches are available with and without a dedicated pole to switch the neutral conductor of load circuits between normal and emergency power sources. Selecting a transfer switch with either a solid or switched neutral depends on whether the electrical distribution system is served by an alternative power source that uses a separately derived ground.
