Schneider Electric supports ICT conference in Zimbabwe

Johannesburg South Africa, Friday, 17 November 2017 - Schneider Electric participates in the Computer Society of Zimbabwe’s Summer School & Exhibition, which takes place at Elephant Hills, Victoria Falls from 15-17 November 2017.

Under the theme ‘ICTs are critical tools for promoting human development and reducing inequalities’, Schneider Electric will focus on Data Centres and secure power solutions built on EcoStruxure. EcoStruxure is Schneider Electric’s open, interoperable, IoT-enabled system architecture. It leverages technologies in IoT, mobility, sensing, cloud, analytics and cybersecurity to deliver innovation at every level through connected products, edge control, and apps, analytics & services.

“We fully subscribe to the UN’s Agenda 2030 and its call for regional and international cooperation and access to science, technology and innovation, as well as enhanced knowledge sharing on mutually agreed terms,” says Riaan de Leeuw, Vice President of the IT Division in Anglophone Africa for Schneider Electric.

“Through our partner in Zimbabwe, Tendo Electronics and Power Engineering, a leading service and turnkey solution provider for network critical physical infrastructure and energy efficiency solutions, we will further the promotion of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Southern Africa.”

The Summer School event attracts the very best of ICT stakeholders from government, parastatels, regulators, as well as the private sector, and therefore provides an ideal opportunity for Schneider Electric to demonstrate its capabilities in data center and secure power environments.

Globally, as big data demand continues to grow, organisations need to manage and store sensitive data, usually in off-site data centres that house a large group of networked computer servers used for remote storage, processing and distribution of data. These centres require highly specialised equipment to control and monitor critical functions, such as power fluctuations, temperature and dust control, fire extinguishing systems and security, if they are to safeguard data management and retrieval 24/7.

“We believe that gains and advances in efficiencies will be driven by the convergence of Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT) and behind that converge is the acceleration of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). This could reduce energy usage, while allowing enterprises to remain competitive, in a complex digitally transformed ecosystem,” continues de Leeuw.

“Schneider Electric offers EcoStruxure, a modular management solution that encompasses these requirements in a unique turnkey offering through its selected partners. The major benefit of modular selection is that customers can decide which components and functionalities they require at the onset of the project, thus managing capital outlay to match their needs. We are very excited by the possibilities of this conference, addressing key issues of Health, Agriculture, Banking & Finance and Education & Learning and look forward to the interaction between delegates.

“Today 1 billion people do not have any access to electricity, which we believe is a fundamental and basic human right and the foundation for progress. We at Schneider Electric are energy optimists. We believe that addressing this paradox is possible through the technologies of today. However, it requires us to leverage the innovation we already have and think, design and build in a very different manner,” concludes de Leeuw.
