How does transformer efficiency affect the cost of my installation?
Among effective techniques to evaluate the installation cost is to make your investment decision based on what's called the "total cost of ownership",
Total cost of ownership for a transformer accounts for both the purchasing (initial) cost of the transformer as well as for the operational costs.
The losses can be divided into two categories: load losses, which are proportional to the transformer load (square of current); and no-load losses, which are caused by the magnetization of the core as long as the transformer is energized, and are constant - independent of the transformer load.
A high efficiency transformer corresponds to equipment designed for low level of losses to ensure reduced cost of ownership for end user, in addition it contributes positively to environment sustainability.
