What is SpaceLogic KNX?
KNX is an open international standard for home and building automation, enabling interoperable control of lighting, HVAC, security, and energy systems across multiple vendors. KNX vs other protocols - which should you choose?
KNX is an open, internationally standardised protocol for professional building automation, designed for long‑term reliability, scalability, and long-term flexibility. Unlike proprietary systems tied to a single manufacturer's hardware and software, KNX enables true multi‑vendor interoperability, allowing systems to evolve over decades without lock‑in. Compared to wireless protocols such as Zigbee or Z‑Wave, KNX's wired TP backbone delivers deterministic, interference‑free performance. Its decentralised architecture ensures core functions continue to operate even if individual devices fail. For new builds and major refurbishments, KNX provides a future‑proof foundation. How to install a SpaceLogic KNX System?
i. Design: Define the KNX topology, select devices (sensors, actuators, controllers like spaceLYnk or Wiser for KNX), and create the group address structure using ETS or eConfigure.
ii. Cable: Install KNX bus cable (YCYM 2×2×0.8mm) separately from 230V power lines, following the planned topology.
iii. Mount: Install devices on DIN rails or in-wall boxes and connect them to the KNX bus.
iv. Power up: Energise the KNX power supply and verify correct bus voltage across the line.
v. Programme: Assign physical addresses and download parameters and group addresses using ETS or eConfigure.
vi.Test: Verify all functions, group addresses, and communication objects.
How to troubleshoot SpaceLogic KNX ?
Most KNX issues fall into one of these categories - check them in order before escalating:
• Bus voltage - Confirm power supply output is within 21–30V DC and that total current draw does not exceed rated capacity
• Communication failures - Check that line and area couplers are correctly configured and not unintentionally filtering group addresses
• Programming conflicts - Review send and receive flags on communication objects in ETS; missing flags are the most common cause of non-responsive devices
• Intermittent faults - Use the ETS bus monitor to capture live telegrams and identify devices generating excessive traffic or errors
• Device-level issues - Always isolate and test devices individually before diagnosing system-wide faults
