Airmaster partners with Schneider Electric to optimise Tuggeranong Office Park network

Sydney (Australia), January 21, 2019 - Airmaster, an award-winning technical solutions company, has partnered with Schneider Electric to launch an industry-leading Building Services Network for Tuggeranong Office Park in Canberra

All building services in the development can now be run from one failsafe and resilient network

The network uses Schneider Electric’s edge computing to deliver first class data security credentials and processing speeds for occupants

Schneider Electric, the leader in digital transformation of energy management and automation, and Airmaster have collaborated to deliver a new Building Services Network (BSN) at Tuggeranong Office Park in Canberra complete with a best-in-class combination of Edge Computing and Smart Building applications.

The BSN is designed to meet the growing demand for a combined information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) solution, bringing connected devices at the site onto one secure network, increasing efficiencies and streamlining operations. Many new properties in the Canberra region are earmarked for similar Internet of Things-ready technology, attracted by the reduced cabling and enhanced data security made possible through the new system.

The Office Park, owned by Cromwell Property Group, services a wide range of occupants, including government departments and organisations with strict requirements around data security and transmission. The system solution, designed and installed by Airmaster, provides a stable, failsafe and resilient network catering to the data security needs of tenants who transmit large amounts of sensitive information.

“The BSN uses APC by Schneider Electric’s local edge solutions to ensure uptime and efficiency, improving sustainability and data processing capabilities. It also reduces the amount of physical infrastructure and hardware across the site and integrates services like BMS, security, lighting control and energy metering onto the network,” said Vishal Nayak, National Sales Manager, Schneider Electric.

The BSN is one of the first systems to allow edge computing and smart building applications to be easily integrated into building functions. Edge computing involves processing data in close proximity to where it is generated and captured, which can dramatically improve the speed, capacity and security of data-intensive critical business operations. As the Internet of Things phenomena continues to take hold in Australia, demand is growing for advanced solutions for data processing.

Schneider Electric’s Vice-President for IT Division and Strategic Segments Joe Craparotta said: “The innovative new system at Tuggeranong Office Park provides market-leading solutions to the entire facility. This technology allows property developers and builders to employ sustainable solutions in an increasingly competitive market. Schneider Electric’s experts are constantly developing new products and solutions to suit the fast moving building optimisation industry.”

Rob Huntington, ACT Branch Manager at Airmaster, said: “The network wouldn’t be possible without having faith in the power reliability which the APC by Schneider Electric edge computing infrastructure provides. The tenants have a high dependency on the BSN being online, and site wide, the communication needs to be stable and failsafe. The UPS ensures maximum uptime so that all systems in the building are running effectively.”

“Working with Schneider Electric, we have a winning team to deliver results and give customers a competitive edge. In developing the design together we have been able to make each iteration of the system the latest and greatest,” concludes Mr. Huntington.

Chris McMillan, manager for Facilities Services at Cromwell Property Group said: “As a Facility Manager, having all the building services on one network makes life easier from a day-to-day operations point of view. We needed to offer an industry-leading edge computing solution in order to keep it safe from external threats and maximize uptime. Our new Business Services Network solution has delivered fantastic results and working with Schneider Electric has been an exceptional experience which has allowed us to optimise our offering for a diverse range of occupants well into the future.”

About the BSN
At the Tuggeranong Office Park, the BSN is a fully meshed, active network which connects a series of HP Edge Switches back to two HP Core Switches in a primary/secondary configuration. This configuration protects the BSN against primary fibre backbone failure and loss of communications as the network is automatically re-directed via the secondary path to the secondary core switch.

In addition to this redundancy, crucial switches are connected to two rack mounted APC by Schneider Electric UPS units. This means that in the event of a complete power failure in the building, including generator failure and base building UPS failure, the BSN will still be operating. This configuration provides for 30 minutes of backup power to activate alarms across the buildings services, and to allow safe shutdown of equipment. All alarms are sent via the BSN, at which point rules are applied and alarms are outputted to key stakeholders for actions. The BSN also notifies stakeholders when the building power is restored and alarms are cleared.

To power the industrial grade IT equipment, APC by Schneider Electric PDUs have been installed at the site. In the Building Distribution Room, APC by Schneider Electric server racks, PDUs and UPSs are used to power and run all equipment, including the firewalls and backups. The APC by Schneider Electric products were chosen for this job because of their reliability, as well as the ability for the UPS and PDUs to be monitored from a common interface.
