This FAQ provides a condensed list of steps to configure a Machine SCADA Expert v2023 project to run as a Windows service.
What is a Windows Service?
A Windows service is a background process that can start automatically when the computer boots, run without a user interface, and continue operating even when no user is logged in. This makes it ideal for long-running tasks that require minimal user interaction.

Steps to set Machine SCADA Expert v2023 project to run as a Windows service:
Keep in mind that some of these steps require elevated access to the computer. Assistance from your IT department may be required.
1- Create the service following the steps outlined below:

Note: In page 146 the steps to change the project file or delete the service can be found.
2- Create or use an existing user for this service. To create a user type lusrmgr.msc, make sure it is under ADMIN groups, and password set to Never Expires.
3- Configure user privileges as described in the manual below:

4- Go to the Machine SCADA Expert 2023 service under Services tab inside the Task Manager -> Right click on Open Services -> Look for the same service again, right click and click on Properties -> Set Log On to This account -> Select the user created and set the credentials -> Restart the service.
5- Once you created and set up the user to be used under Service, used that username and password in the Machine SCADA Expert Service window:
Additional considerations:
a. OPC driver.
The OPC driver requires additional DCOM configuration. Please refer to page 147 of the manual for more information.
b. Machine SCADA Expert Viewer.
The Viewer object cannot be launched while the application is running as a service. It will only be available once the service has been stopped.
c. Windows user.
