From gas network to digital energy transport

Gasunie is a Dutch network company that plays a crucial role in the energy transition by managing an extensive high-pressure gas transport network. This network, one of the largest in Europe, includes a wide-ranging system of pipelines and large storage capacities. Gasunie focuses on transporting various forms of energy such as natural gas, green gas, hydrogen and heat.

Gasunie is facing the challenge of adapting its gas transport network to the demands of the energy transition. This means that in addition to natural gas, they must also be able to transport green gas, hydrogen and heat. The complexity of the network is increasing, which requires advanced automation, improved user experience and increased security. In addition, Gasunie must be able to respond proactively to changes in supply and demand, and to the CO₂ reducing emissions to achieve their climate neutrality target by 2045.

Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure Advanced Gas Management System (AGMS) enables Gasunie to efficiently manage its complex gas transport network. This integrated software platform provides a central control room where the entire network can be controlled, including the transport of natural gas, CO₂, heat and hydrogen. The system uses a Geographical Information System (GIS) that provides detailed information on pipes and components. Thanks to the extensive set of standard open interfaces, the AGMS platform can seamlessly integrate with other systems, allowing processes within the company to be better aligned and allowing further digitization.

Thanks to the new AGMS platform, Gasunie has greatly improved its network management. The system allows the entire network to be controlled from one central control room, which increases efficiency. By integrating detailed geographic information and standard open interfaces, different business processes can be better aligned. This has led to significant automation of routine tasks, allowing employees to focus on more complex tasks. In addition, the platform enables Gasunie to respond proactively to changes in the network, which contributes to a reduction in CO₂ emissions and a step towards climate neutrality by 2045.
