I would like to know the Breaker Open, Close and Trip Control Modbus address register on Sepam S20 and S40 Protection Relays.

ANSWER
Attached is the Modbus protocol implementation on S20 and S40(50).
Mind that the addressing is presented in hexadecimal mode.
In Modbus, when read or write by Modbus protocol, on Sepam relay, the decimal address should be shifted with +1: add 1 to decimal address.
There are dedicated bits to control the breaker by Modbus protocol on Sepam.
These bits are part of Remote Control Zone of Sepam Memory,

  • On S20, Remote Control Zone word has Modbus address 01F0 (hexa), 496 (decimal). The word has 16 bits and bit address are 1F00 to 1F0F.
  • On S40(50), Remote Control Zone word has the Modbus address 0F0(hexa, 240 (decimal). The word has 16 bits and bit address are 0F00 to 0F0F.

The control bits are:
TC1: Circuit breaker/contactor tripping/Opening
TC2: Circuit breaker/contactor closing
TC5: Sepam acknowledgment (reset)
Into word 1F0 structure, the bit structure of word 1F0 is:

Bit addressxFEDCBA9876543210
TC1
to
TC16
16151413121110987654321

On both Sepam 20 and 40(50) series, Modbus communication protocol implementation is the same except the Modbus addresses which are different as above mentioned.
There are two modes to do Remote Control on Sepam S20 and S40(50):

  • Direct control mode
  • Confirmed Remote Control with Select Before Operate (SBO)

The both processes are described into attached document on Use of remote control orders.
Direct control mode on S20:

  • “Circuit breaker/contactor tripping/Opening” should be done by write 1 to word 1F0(Modbus address
  • 496+1=497

  • “Circuit breaker/contactor closing” should be done by write value 2 to word 1F0(Modbus address  496+1=497)

    Direct control mode on S40(50):
  • “Circuit breaker/contactor tripping/Opening” should be done by write 1 to word 0F0(Modbus address  240+1=240)

  • “Circuit breaker/contactor closing” should be done by write value 2 to word 0F0(Modbus address  240+1=241)
