The reason for the time required to switch to Offline, from either Online or Combined mode

Issue
The reason for the time required to switch to Offline, from either Online or Combined mode

Product Line
ProWORX 32

Environment
Windows 7, Windows 10

Resolution
The reason for the time required to switch to Offline, from either Online or Combined mode, is due to the
additional tasks that must be performed prior to the switch being effected.

The following is a description of the processes taking place when 'ProWORX 32' switches modes:.

  • Online Mode to Offline Mode:
  • When working in Online Mode a structured array of 77 nodes per each of the 5000 networks is created
to hold the data gathered during the Online mode session. The structured array is stored in the PCs
RAM memory. The gathered data consists of Opcodes, register addresses and other information
used for drawing the nodes in the displayed network. Initially, the structured array is empty and it is
subsequently populated as the user pages through the networks displaying the ladder logic.
The structured array also stores any information that ProWORX 32 gathers from any searches that
    are performed by the user.
    • When the user switches to the Offline mode, the memory is cleared up. The memory space is cleared
by the deletion of the structured array. This is not a ProWORX 32 function but is a direct function of the
Microsoft Windows operating system, clearing the memory is not instantaneous and can take a
      substantial amount of time.
  • Combined Mode to Offline Mode:
    • When working in Combined Mode, a structured array of 77 nodes per each of the 5000 networks is created
to hold the data gathered during the Combined Mode session. The structured array is stored in the PCs
RAM memory. The gathered data consists of Opcodes, register addresses and other information used
for drawing the nodes in the displayed network. Initially, the structured array is empty and it is
subsequently populated as the user pages through the networks displaying the ladder logic.
The structured array also stores any information that ProWORX 32 gathers from any searches that
      are performed by the user.

When the user switches to the Offline mode, the project database that is stored on the PC and the
database that is stored in the PLC are synchronized and the network segmentation is verified.
In order to accomplish these tasks, the structured array (PC) must be populated with any data that
was not filled from the PLC during the Combined mode session. ProWORX 32 performs a read
function to the PLC, to locate any missing data which in-turn is used to update the structured array.
After the structured array is updated, the data is then compared against the project database
(PC) and a checksum verification of the logic (PLC) is performed.
