Bootp Errors With 170ENT1100x Ethernet Communication Adapters and Ethernet Configurator Utility version 2.0

Issue
The purpose of this Resolution is to inform users of the 170ENT11000 and 170ENT11002 of a potential problem assigning an IP address using version 2.0 of the Ethernet Configurator Bootp Utility from Concept.

Under the following specific conditions, a reversed IP address (requested A.B.C.D > actual D.C.B.A) will be assigned to a 170ENT1100x Ethernet Communication Adapter. (All conditions must be true for the IP address to be reversed):

1. The 170ENT1100x communication adapter already contains an IP saved in flash memory.
2. Ethernet Configurator Utility version 2.0 is used (Concept program used to assign an IP address via bootp)
3. An IP address is not assigned in the Ethernet Configurator Utility table for that device.
4. The BootP Server is running.

When the ENT is power cycled, the Ethernet Configurator receives the bootp requests. Since the CIADDR field in the bootp request contains the stored IP address in the ENT, the Ethernet Configurator will serve that IP address back to the ENT. But when this occurs, the IP address gets swapped and is accepted by the ENT.

Resolution
This issue can be avoided if any one of the following conditions is true:

• The 170ENT1100x does not contain a stored IP address. The bootp request will not contain an IP in the CIADDR field and therefore will not be served back to the ENT.
• There is an IP in the Ethernet Configurator table assigned to the ENT, regardless if an IP is stored in flash memory.
• If version 1.0 of the Ethernet Configurator is used. This version does not serve the saved IP address from the ENT, back to the ENT. It will only serve what is entered in the Ethernet Configurator table.
• If the Ethernet Configurator bootp server is not running.
