ION 6200 Meter Displays only Frequency Values

Issue

The ION 6200 only displays Frequency on the front panel.  The ability to access the setup menu and scroll through menu items are still available.

Cause

The meter is unable to communicate to the Option Card. Either the Option Card is missing, or there is an obstruction in the contacts between the meter and the card.

Resolution

Determine if the meter is reading the option card properly.

• 1. Press and hold all three front panel buttons for approximately two seconds. All LEDs on the front panel will flash from 8888 to ----. Release the buttons while the LEDs are flashing.
  2. Scroll down until OPt appears (option display). This parameter displays the option card installed in the meter.

  If the display is showing a zero, then the option card is not properly installed.

  If the option reads non-zero, remove the power supply to expose the Options Card, then check the following:
  1. Ensure the Option Card is installed. Instructions for installing the Options card is attached.
  2. Check that the Option Card is properly oriented with the flat side facing the power supply and the arrow pointing towards the top of the meter. Much of the arrowhead will be hidden from view.
  3. Carefully remove the Option Card using a flathead screwdriver or fingernail and gently pushing downward (i.e., opposite the direction of the arrow).

  • • a. Check that the pins still pop up and have not been flattened.
      b. Check the contacts on the main board and verify that they look clean and unobstructed.
  4. Reinstall the Option Card. It should snap into place.
