How To Log Visits to an ION Enterprise WebReach Site
Issue
Show a detailed log of WebReach site visitors for an ION Enterprise WebReach deployment.
Product Line
Environment
Internet Information Services (IIS)
Cause
Auditing or troubleshooting requires a visitor/access log (IP, user agent, timestamps, status codes) for the WebReach site. IIS logging provides this information.
Resolution
Perform all actions with appropriate server change controls. No references inside this section (per your guideline).
Enable logging on the WebReach virtual directory (IIS)
a. Open Control Panel → Administrative Tools → Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
b. In the Connections tree, expand ServerName → Web Sites → Default Web Site → ION (the WebReach virtual root). Right‑click ION → Properties.
c. On the Virtual Directory tab, check Log visits.
2. Locate the site log settings and file path
a. In IIS, right‑click the parent of the ION virtual directory (typically Default Web Site) → Properties.
b. On the Web Site tab, ensure Enable logging is selected, then click Properties to view the log file directory and format.
*This will show the location of the log file. You can change the location by clicking the Browse button.
3. Read the log file: Navigate to the path shown in Step 2 (e.g., the site’s W3C log directory), then open the relevant W3C log file to review visitor entries (date, time, client IP, method, URI, status, user agent, etc.).
