How do I retrieve the project from Magelis XBTF that has the *.XDF file extension?
Issue
How do I retrieve the project from a Magelis XBTF HMI that has the *.XDF file extension?
Product Line
Magelis XBTF HMI, XBTL1000 configuration software
Environment
PCMCIA Card from XBTF, XBTL1000 configuration software (in Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 10)
Resolution
The *.XDF files are the compiled project files for the XBTF panel, which can be found on the removeable media on the XBTF's PCMCIA card slot. This requires a PCMCIA card reader on your PC to read from the card to move the *.XDF files onto your PC. Ensure that the entire \APPLI\ folder and it's contents are moved to your PC.
The alternative method of obtaining the files is via the XBT-L1000 software on a PC with the programming cable combination:
XBTZ915 Serial Cable (to the HMI)
XBTZ962 USB to Serial adapter (to the PC)
The .XDF files can be imported using XBTL1000 configuration software on your PC with these steps:
- From the XBT-L1000 software, go to the Transfer menu -> select Import/Export Folder and browse to the folder where the *.XDF files are located. You must choose the \APPLI\ folder here.
- Once you have set the source folder in Step 1, go to the Transfer menu -> select Import -> from Import/Export Folder
- Hit OK to continue.
- It should try to import the compiled project into XBTL1000 and the project with screens should now be visible after the conversion.
- Once you see the screens appear, Save the project as .DOP file extension. The .DOP file extension is the editable source project.
IMPORTANT: Note that all the files and folders from the \APPLI\ folder must have their original timestamps in order for the conversion to .DOP to work. If you need to compress them to a zip file to move them, do not use the Windows File Explorer's built-in right-click and "Send to Compressed Folder" feature. Use a third-party archival tool such as 7-Zip, WinRAR, or WinZip to compress the files into an archive. Test the extraction first to ensure the extracted folders and files have the exact timestamps of the originals.
If you get the following error: "this is not an XBT-L1000 file", it means that either:
(a) The file was created in a newer version of XBTL1000 than the installed version on your PC
(b) A protocol used in that application is not installed on your XBTL1000 software. - in this case, just install all of them from the installation disc and attempt import again.
(c) There are missing or corrupted files in the \APPLI\ folder (File Last Modified timestamps that don't match the rest of the files in the \APPLI\ folder often indicate a corrupted file. This can occur due to the age of the PCMCIA card or Serial Cable file transfer errors. If this occurs, try the file transfer from the PCMCIA card again or the serial cable transfer again.
