How does the detection work in mounting heights above 3m for MTN630x19?

In the inner circle of detection (radius of approx. 3.5 m) small movements are detected. In the outer circle only, larger movements are detected. The mentioned values are valid at a mounting height of 2.5 meters. If you increase the mounting height the detection area will increase but additionally the sensitivity of the detection will decrease. This is due to the size of the detection elements and the distance between two detection elements is increasing. The result of this is that a person needs to do larger movements to pass from one to another detection element. (See below picture).



At a mounting height of 5 meters small movements will not be detected. Even larger movements might not be detected (especially in the outer circle of detection area).

We recommend using the devices only for mounting heights up to 3m. Thus, the customer shouldn't use the device at larger mounting heights. It might work for some applications like warehouse where mostly large movements happen. But for an office application with people sitting at a desk the detection will be quite poor and the detector shouldn't be used for such purpose. The customer might make a test if the detection behaviour is satisfactory for him. Without a test I wouldn't propose such solution.

If you need large mounting height, you can use MTN63x4-0019 KNX High Bay Presence Detector. It allows mounting height from 2.5m up to 14m.
