How to Discover and Add Modbus Serial and Modbus TCP Devices to EcoStruxure™ Panel Server Using EcoStruxure™ Power Commission
EcoStruxure™ Power Commission provides a structured discovery workflow to identify and add Modbus TCP and Modbus serial devices connected to an EcoStruxure™ Panel Server. Discovery can be performed either directly via IP network scanning or through the Panel Server gateway.
To begin, open EcoStruxure™ Power Commission and select Launch Device Discovery. In the IP / Ethernet tab, enter the IP address of the EcoStruxure™ Panel Server. If Modbus serial devices are connected behind the panel server, specify the Modbus address range and click Next. EPC will scan the panel server and display a list of all detected Modbus devices along with their respective addresses. Select the required devices and click Add Devices to include them in the project.
Alternatively, the Panel Server can be added to the project first by entering only its IP address. Once the device is discovered and connected, select the Modbus Devices card. The system prompts whether to add the Modbus devices connected to the gateway. Selecting "Yes" automatically adds all detected Modbus TCP and serial devices into the project.
After successful addition, all Modbus devices are visible in the Switchboard View, organized within the switchboard hierarchy, such as power meters, circuit breakers, and other connected equipment.
Refer to the added document to see how the devices are added in Ecostruxure Power Commission.
Troubleshooting and Common Errors
1. No Devices Discovered During Scan
- Verify that the EcoStruxure™ Panel Server is powered ON and reachable on the network.
- Confirm the correct IP address is entered in EcoStruxure™ Power Commission.
- Ensure the PC running EPC is on the same subnet as the panel server.
2. Modbus Devices Not Listed After Panel Server Connection
- Check that Modbus serial devices are correctly wired to the panel server.
- Validate the configured Modbus addresses and ensure there are no address conflicts.
- Confirm that the Modbus communication parameters (baud rate, parity, stop bits) match the device configuration.
3. Manual Discovery Fails to Find Devices
- Ensure the correct Modbus address range is entered during manual discovery.
- Verify that the devices are supported by EcoStruxure™ Power Commission.
- Check that Modbus TCP devices are enabled for IP discovery on the network.
4. Devices Appear Offline After Addition
- Verify network stability and Ethernet cabling.
- Confirm the panel server firmware and EPC version compatibility.
- Restart the Panel Server and re‑establish the connection from EPC if required
