Alarms Is Processing Existing Records for First Time Use
Issue
The Alarms application displays a message indicating that existing records are being processed for first time use, but the processing counters or completion percentage do not appear to progress.

Cause
After a side-by-side upgrade or a large influx of event and alarm data, PME must process existing event records and create the corresponding alarms and incidents.
The processing time depends on the number and type of existing records. Power quality event processing can be time consuming, and the progress indicator may remain unchanged for extended periods while PME processes the backlog.
Resolution
-
Review the processing message and record the following values:
- Events processed
- Power Quality Events processed
- PQ Alarm Events processed
- Completion percentage
-
Click Refresh to update the processing status.
-
Allow additional processing time, especially when the system contains a large number of historical events or power quality records.
-
Click Refresh again and compare the counters with the previously recorded values.
-
If the counters increase, PME is still processing the existing records. Allow the process to continue until it completes.
-
If the counters do not increase after sufficient processing time, confirm that the PME alarm processing services are running.
-
Review PME system logs and Windows Event Viewer for alarm-processing, service, or database errors near the time processing stopped.
-
Confirm that SQL Server is running, the required PME databases are online, and the database server has sufficient available disk space.
-
If processing remains stuck, collect the following information and escalate the case for database level analysis:
- Installed PME version and build
- SQL Server version and edition
- Screenshot of the processing message
- Current processing counters and completion percentage
- Approximate time the counters stopped advancing
- Relevant PME and Windows Event Viewer errors
- Details of any recent upgrade, restore, or large event influx
Do not run alarm or incident database cleanup scripts unless the specific database condition has been confirmed and the recovery procedure has been validated for the installed PME version.
Do not manually change the alarm full backfill completion setting as a general workaround. Forcing the processing status to complete can bypass historical event processing without resolving the underlying condition.
Recommendation:
If you are using an older version of PME, consider upgrading to the latest version for improved protocol support and security. For assistance with integration or upgrades, contact Schneider Electric Technical Support at: pmo.support@se.com
