Answer:
The common topology used by these units are either Stand-By or Line Interactive. You can check this FAQ to know a little more about these topologies. These can involve components that when used by the UPS, makes you hear a slight buzz. When a UPS is giving out these buzzing sounds, it means that it might be using its components:
- Inverter : to convert battery power to useful AC power if the unit is running on battery
- Rectifier / Charger : If it is charging the batteries
- AVR / Transformer : Line Interactive units will have a special feature that will allow them to adjust sags (too less voltage) or swells (too much voltage) before it uses its battery
- Cooling fan : The Back UPS Pro will usually have fans that will run if the unit is doing the following :
- The UPS is charging its batteries
- The UPS is running on batteries
- The UPS is carrying a load greater than 75% of its Watt Capacity
- The UPS is experiencing high internal temperatures which is typically above 104 Degrees F (40 Degrees C)
The normal acoustic level of a Back UPS is around 45 dBA which is going to be fairly quiet. If the unit exhibits issues greater than this or something that is concerning, please do contact us and we will be more than happy to assist to check the unit and troubleshoot to make sure everything is ok.
