How to extract COMTRADE data from High-End Platform - HEP meters (PM8000, ION7400, and ION 9000) and ION8650 meter using ION Setup?

Issue

There is no available guide for extracting COMTRADE data from meters with that capability, and no relevant information could be found in the meter documentation.

The users would like to extract the COMTRADE Data on the meters with that capability.

Resolution

Not all our meters support the COMTRADE feature. Only the ION8650 and the High-End Platform (HEP) meters—PM8000, ION7400, ION 9000 include this capability. While there may be other methods to extract COMTRADE data from these meters, the ION Setup software can also be used for this purpose.

Below is a step-by-step procedure for extracting COMTRADE data using ION Setup.

1. On High-End Platform meters – HEP: PM8000, ION7400, and ION 9000 or ION8650 meter

• Download and install the latest version of the ION Setup software and firmware on your laptop or PC.
• Add the meter to ION Setup when the meter is connected to a laptop or PC directly or from the Network
• Then click on the meter  > Double click on Setup Assistant  > Power quality > Sag/Swell Logging > Select the records > Save > Select the period > OK.

2. On ION8650

• Download and install the ION Setup Software in a Laptop or PC
• Add the meter to ION Setup when the meter is connected to a Laptop or PC directly or from the Network
• Then click on the meter  > Double click on Setup Assistant  > Power quality > COMTRADE > Select the Data files needed (Sag/Swell, Sag/Swell Depth, Transient Status, or Transient Depth) > Save > Select the period > OK

Then double click on each file and select the file format needed to save or view the data.
