Resolution

The message in the Windows titlebar of EcoStruxure Control Expert v16 is a new implementation and is normal and expected for a default installation of Control Expert v16.

To explain what this message is for, we must first evaluate the Security Editor Tool's features.

The Security Editor is a tool in EcoStruxure Control Expert software used to manage user access and security settings for automation projects. It allows administrators to create user accounts, assign passwords, and define specific permissions for different functions within the Control Expert software, ensuring that only authorized personnel can perform certain operations like uploading or modifying project files.

By default, the Security Editor tool in v16 does not require a username/password for Control Expert to launch. And if there is no user logged-in, it will always display "{No User Authentication}".

If you do indeed set up in the Security Manager tool to require a user to login when launching Control Expert Classic, you will see this screen:

Control Expert Classic Login splash screen

The area where the message "{No User Authentication}" appears on the Windows Application Titlebar is specifically for use in conjunction with the "Security Editor" tool.

When the user logs in and Control Expert Classic is launched, then instead of seeing "{No User Authentication}" in the titlebar, you will see the Username of the person who logged in and launched Control Expert.

Key functions of the Security Editor are:

  • User Management: Create and manage user accounts and their associated passwords.
  • Access Control: Define granular permissions for different user profiles, controlling who can perform specific actions.
  • Security Policies: Configure security options, such as enabling a login security policy.
  • Project Security: Set a password for a project when it is created, as prompted by newer versions of Control Expert.
  • Integration with other tools: Store login data for the Security Editor in the AdminClient and use it to configure features like Syslog (to log events to an external Syslog logging server)
