Issue:
Customer needs release notes for all firmware versions of the C3413 Green CPU used in SAGE RTUs to verify if any security-related updates exist. They could not find a revision history document in the firmware zip package.
Product:
SAGE 2400
SAGE 3030M
SAGE 4400
SAGE 14x0
Environment:
- Legacy SAGE RTU deployed in substations
- Firmware cleanup for NERC CIP compliance
- Customer reviewing historical firmware releases for security updates
Cause:
The C3413 CPU is an older hardware platform. Its firmware release notes are cumulative and include entries for the different CPU types, which can cause confusion when searching for specific updates.
Resolution:
- Release Notes Availability:
- Each firmware release includes a cumulative release notes document dating back to July 2005 (C1 firmware for C3413).
- Entries labeled “For use with Fx86 CPU” apply to the C3413 CPU.
- Entries labeled “For use with LX-800 CPU” apply to the C3414 CPU only.
- Security Updates:
- There were no security-related updates for the C3413 CPU firmware.
- When cybersecurity requirements became critical, Secure Firmware was introduced, but it only runs on C3414 CPU boards.
- Upgrade Recommendation:
- If the customer is still using the C3413 CPU, they are on obsolete hardware and firmware.
- To enable secure firmware and modern security features, they must:
- Purchase new CPU hardware (C3414). The next part number includes everything necessary to perform the CPU upgrade: C3414-KIT-800S2
- Convert existing configurations to work with the latest firmware (currently K5_P9).
