How to Properly Decommission an M580 CPU and Successfully Discover It in Cybersecurity Admin Expert (CAE)

Customers are deploying M580 CPUs with firmware version 4.60 together with Cybersecurity Admin Expert (CAE) 4.2.1 to centralize cybersecurity management and configuration.

During the CAE onboarding process, after:

  • Creating the project
  • Creating users and assigning roles
  • Initiating device discovery from CAE

the M580 CPU can be successfully discovered and added to the System Editor. The device can then be selected and marked as Trusted.

Although CAE establishes communication with the controller, the following popup message may appear:

The device has not been properly decommissioned.

1

This indicates that the controller is not in the required Out-of-Box (OOB) state.

Expected Controller State After Decommissioning

After a successful decommissioning, the M580 CPU must return to its Out-of-Box state.

The LED indications should be:

  • ERR LED blinking red
  • ETH NS LED blinking green
  • ETH MS LED blinking green

2

If the controller is not in this state, CAE may reject the device during the commissioning process.
