To inform customers on the procedure of upgrading the SUMU Firmware using the display and USB port

NOTES:
- It is recommended to update the NMC/Display firmware to latest version before doing a UPS FW upgrade. Please follow FAQ https://www.apc.com/ae/en/faqs/FAQ000261841/ to upgrade the NMC/Display firmware to the latest firmware before proceeding.
- If the UPS has version higher version > = 15.0, it is not advised to go to any lower version like 10.8 and 13.2. For any specific requirement that mandates a downgrade, please connect with Customer Care Center.
- The firmware update settings can interfere with the UPS firmware update process. The firmware update settings are only accessible on the web user interface. To check those settings and upgrade through the NMC Web user interface, please follow this FAQ: https://www.se.com/us/en/faqs/FAQ000277727/.
- It is recommended to do a power cycle to the UPS prior to upgrading the UPS Firmware. Please reference the following FAQ for the proper power cycle steps. https://www.apc.com/us/en/faqs/FAQ000274118/
- If upgrading from firmware version UPS 10.8, the UPS output must be turned OFF and can be updated only when UPS input supply is available.
- If upgrading from UPS firmware version UPS 13.2 or greater, the UPS can be off or put into Manual Bypass if the UPS firmware update settings are set correctly (see note 'c' above). See Set the UPS to Manual Bypass Mode section in the Smart UPS Modular Ultra Manual.
- It is recommended to use a stopwatch to time the UPS firmware update progress
- Download the firmware upgrade file. Note: Always refer to the web site for UPS model and latest firmware.
- Notes: Make sure to download the correct UPS FW. Example of UPS Firmware file name: SRYL1225SPKG_10_8.enc which is version 10.8.
- UPS firmware can be placed in the root directory of the USB storage device. The USB must be FAT32 format.
- Insert USB storage device containing UPS firmware update into USB port located to the right of the display.
- Pop-up screen appears acknowledging connected USB storage device; touch OK to continue.
- If the pop up screen does not come up, navigate to Home > Configuration > USB Storage.
- On the USB Storage screen that appears, select “Install UPS firmware” and touch OK
- Select Yes to continue the update process; select No to abort
- Progress bar will appear. The process takes approximately 22 to 25 minutes to complete the update.
- Notes: Screen will return to the home screen after 30 seconds unless it is touched before then. To view the update progress, navigate to Home > Configuration > USB Storage
- Upgrade Notes: You might experience the following behavior. All of the behavior is normal.
- Display shows Redundant IM initializing or not ready. Do not remove Main IM alarm (0x3B7D)
- Display shows both Redundant IM initializing or not ready. Do not remove Main IM alarm (0x3B7D) and 0x3B83 alarm (Redundant IM not ready. Do not remove Main IM).
- Display indicates No UPS communication.
- Display indicates No UPS communications cleared, 0x3B83 alarm cleared.
- Display indicates Redundant IM initializing or not ready. Do not remove Main IM alarm (0x3B7D) cleared.
- Navigate to USB Storage to confirm that the update is complete
- Navigate to Home -> About -> UPS -> System and validate the firmware version has been updated
- Notes: It may take a few minutes for the display to reflect the new FW change.
- Example: SRYL1225SPKG_13_2.enc which is version 13.2. System page should read, Firmware: UPS 13.2
- Validate the UPS has initialized the IMs by checking the firmware of each IM on the display. Navigate to Home > About > UPS > Intelligence Modules. Both IMs firmware versions should be populated and the same.
- If the firmware update was not successful on one of the IMs, please wait an additional 6 minutes and recheck the firmware. If it has still not updated, disconnect the IM that was updated successfully and repeat steps 3 to 9 with one IM installed. Once successful, reinsert the other IM and wait for initializing to clear.
- Navigate back to USB Storage and select Eject storage device option and touch OK to eject the USB storage device.
- Once validating the upgrade, loosen the thumbscrew for IM in position B to ensure the IM in position A is in control. (LEDs in IM position A are on.)
- Tighten the thumbscrew for IM in position B.
- Wait 3 minutes for IMs to initialize
- If your UPS is in Manual Bypass, switch it back to Normal Mode
- If the UPS out is off, navigate to:
- Control > UPS > Turn UPS on
