Issue:
What product line replaces the ATV61?
Product Line:
Altivar 61 / ATV61
E-Flex
MCC installed ATV61
Environment:
All products of Altivar 61
Cause:
Altivar 61 drives are no longer available
Resolution:
The ATV61 has been phased out of production in the US in 2016, and customers need to replace them with a current product.
In some very basic installations the ATV212 may be a good replacement.
Be aware that the ATV212 is a much more limited product in terms of features, functions and options. A careful review of the application requirements should be made to be sure it is sufficient.

The Enclosed ATV212 drive (S-Flex) has Type 12 and Type 3R enclosure options in addition to the standard Type 1. The ATV212 S-Flex drive is a product offered in the US and could be considered to replace an E-Flex, M-Flex or customer installed ATV61 that is in a stand alone enclosure.

For more advanced or complicated applications the appropriate replacement for the ATV61 will be the Altivar 600 Product line in most cases.

Application
Low Torque applications typically most Pumps and Fans (Variable Torque).
May be used on Constant Torque loads that do not require high starting current.
Altivar 61 to Altivar 600 Product Line
ATV630... (IP21) replaces the ATV61H... (open style)
ATV650... (IP55) replaces the ATV61W... (Type 12)
ATV660... (Type 1, 12K and 3R - Drive Systems) replaces the E-Flex, M-Flex or any Enclosed Drive System with an ATV61 drive
ATV680... (Type 1, 12K and 3R - Regenerative Drive) replaces PowerGuard (18-Pulse Drive) ATV61 Enclosed Drives
Each ATV600 series drive has 2 different Horsepower and current ratings.
By default the drives are set up for Normal Duty which indicates they are rated for 110% overcurrent capacity for 60 seconds.
Heavy Duty ratings are also provided. When programmed for Heavy Duty the HP rating and current rating are decreased, but the drive is then able to provide 150% of the new current rating for 60 seconds.
The ATV600 does not have provisions for connecting a Dynamic Braking Resistor or for using a DC Bus connection.
Altivar 61 vs Altivar 600 Product Line
The ATV600 has similar functionalities to the ATV61 but a few minor differences to consider when replacing.
Differences:
Size:
The dimensions for the ATV630 can be significantly different than those of the same HP size ATV61 so care must be taken before ordering to ensure the product will fit.
ATV600 Installation manual is available here: https://www.se.com/ww/en/download/document/EAV64301/
It may be difficult to retrofit an ATV630 into an E-Flex, M-Flex, Field Drive, or MCC bucket due to dimensional issues.
Please review carefully before attempting.
Be aware that this may impact the UL listing of the assembly.
Network Communications:
The ATV630 may not support all of the network communication options that were available in the ATV61 so may also impact your selection.
Smaller HP:
For smaller HP applications (less than 20 HP) you may want to review the ATV320 as a possible replacement, We also offer the ATV340 which will support applications up to 100 HP at 460V. Note that dimensions, accessories and programming for these products will also be different than the ATV61.

ATV340 webpage link: https://www.se.com/us/en/product-range/63441-altivar-340-machine-variable-frequency-drive-vfd/
As mentioned above, the ATV212 product may also be an option.
Safety Inputs:
The safety Input on the ATV61 drive is PWR and +24. The ATV600 uses STO inputs (STOA and STOB)
STO stands for Safe Torque Off. (Reference Altivar 600 Safety Manual for more detailed information https://www.se.com/ww/en/download/document/EAV64334/)
Keypad:
ATV61 was used with graphic keypad (VW3A1101) and had a mounting kit option (VW3A1102)
ATV630 uses a different keypad (VW3A1111) and mounting kit (VW3A1112)
Both use the same cable part numbers to connect the remote mounting kit to the drive (VW3A1104R10 - 1 meter, VW3A1104R30 - 3 meters, VW3A1104R50 - 5 meters, VW3A1104R100 - 10 meters)
Programming:
The programming layout or style is different from that of the Altivar 61 drive. However, the functions are similar.
There are some functionalities found in one and not the other. Reference the ATV600 series Programming Manual for further information. https://www.se.com/ww/en/download/document/EAV64318/
Both drives support SoMove programming software.
Control Terminals:
The ATV600 has 1 additional analog input, an additional safety input and 1 more analog output on the embedded control terminal card as well as an extra relay output.
The ATV600 also includes a ModBus TCP/IP Ethernet port and 2 ModBus RS45 ports (one used for the keypad).
Single vs 3-Phase Input Power (motors are required to be 3 phase):
The ATV61H...M3 worked up to 30HP in single phase.
Some Altivar 630 drives are tested and approved for single phase input power.
