Video: Power Monitoring Expert 8.2 - How do I upgrade distributed PME 8.1 systems to PME 8.2?
Issue
User wants to upgrade Power Monitoring Expert (PME) 8.0 or PME 8.1 to PME 8.2

Product
EcoStruxure™ Power Monitoring Expert 8.2

Environment
Power Monitoring Expert 8.0 or Power Monitoring Expert 8.1 in a distributed system. A 'distributed PME system' is one with a separate database server.

Cause
Power Monitoring Expert 8.2 install is only run on application server, 'Database Instance' setup type removed from the PME 8.2 installer. When upgrading an older distributed system, running the installer on the Application server upgrades the database server as well as the application server. PME 8.2 does not require the PME installer to be run on the database server.

Resolution
*Warning: Take backups of any files prior to modifying them. Ensure the backups are in a location that will not be overwritten (i.e. the Desktop).*

Please read the information below before following the procedure in the attached document. Also attached is a file referenced in the document that is necessary in order to uninstall the obsolete PME 8.1 files and programs from the database server.

The procedure that follows applies to both minimalist and standard PME 8.1 distributed installations, except for the final section on 'Removing the old PME 8.1 files from the database server'. This final section is only applicable to distributed systems where the PME installer HAS been run on the database server.

Prior to upgrading a distributed system, pay close attention to the following.
  • IMPORTANT: Do not uninstall PME on the database server prior to the upgrade. This can be done after the upgrade to PME 8.2 is complete following instructions near the end of this document.
  • If you are planning to have the PME installer take database backups, be sure you have a location ready on the database server.
  • You will need to be able to access SQL Server on the database server with credentials that have sysadmin access, using either Windows or SQL Authentication.

The following video demonstrates this procedure:
