Why are there two MAC addresses (MAC ID's) on a PM8000 meter or an ION7400 meter?
Issue
A user may want to know why there are two MAC ID's on a PM8000 meter or an ION7400 meter

Product Line
PM8000 meters
ION7400 meters

Environment
Metering & Power Monitoring

Cause
There are two MAC ID's listed on the PM8000 and ION7400, but there can be only one IP Address

Resolution
Media Access Control Address (MAC address or MAC ID) is a unique identifier assigned to all network interfaces.

PM8000 and ION7400 meters have two MAC addresses because they have two separate ethernet ports, but those ports do not currently operate independently; instead, the ethernet ports are internally switched, providing a similar function as a network pass-through point in either direction, but with a single IP address.
