Power Monitoring Expert 9.x
Environment
- Management Console (Run as Administrator)
- Device Type Editor (DTE)
- .ion template files located in Config/Templates
Cause
A new or custom device type must be incorporated into the system, requiring manual installation through the DTE.
Resolution
**Note that for systems older than PME 9.0 the Device Type Editor is not available and Modbus Device importer is to be used instead.
1. Launch Management Console as Administrator. Running with elevated permissions ensures the Device Type installation can be written to system directories.
2. Open the Device Type Editor (DTE) from the Tools->System menu.
3.
- If you are creating a template for the first time, please refer to the instructions located in the system guide on how to Create a Modbus device type.
- If you are using an existing template as a reference, make a copy of the template file and rename it to the desired device type name and ensure that it is in config/templates. Then open this file in the DTE. Make any desired changes here and be mindful to update the Device Type Label and the Template name in the Factory Information tree if it was copied.
4. Select Tools -> Install Device Type
5.
- Ensure that the Device Type Name and Template name match the expected value
- Check Ethernet Support if needed.
- You can add a device diagram or icon at this stage if you have one created for this device type
6. Click Install Device Type. A message should appear stating Installation Successful, and the new device type should now be visible under Config/Translators.
You should now see this device type available in Management Console.
