Installation process.

Safety Instructions

Potential electrical hazard exists when removing/installing side panels from a PDU, UPS, or XR Battery Cabinet. APC does not recommend performing any service to

the PDU, UPS, or XR Battery Cabinet while it is energized. However, due to the critical nature of data center loads, this may occur. If you must perform this

operation while the PDU, UPS, or XR Battery Cabinet is receiving input power, observe the following precautions to reduce the risk of electrical shock:

1. Never work alone.

2. Perform the work only if you are a certified electrician who is trained in the hazards of live electrical installation.

3. Know the procedure for disconnecting electricity to the PDU, UPS, or XR Battery Cabinet, in case of an emergency.

4. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

5. Use double-insulated tools.

6. Always follow local and site regulations when working on the PDU, UPS, or XR Battery Cabinet.

Installation

Each of the following procedures is required to correctly install your Rack Expansion Bundle Kit. Perform these procedures in this order.

Side Panel Removal

Remove the side panels at the end of the row of the Hot Aisle Containment System; each panel is connected by ground a strap that must be disconnected to completely remove each panel.

Door and Door Frame Removal

The door frame is heavy and requires at least two persons to safely remove and store it

Remember to save all hardware that you remove so that it may be reused when you reinstall the door and door frame.

5. Remove five M6×12 mm screws and M6 flange nuts on each doorframe upright to remove the door frame assembly from the equipment frames

21U Side Panels

Before attaching new racks to an existing system, install two 21 U side panels onto each NetShelter VS (900-mm) or NetShelter VX (1070-mm) enclosure. If grounding is required, there are two

grounding studs on each 21U side panel.

PSX/PDU side panel installation

See the “Safety Instructions” on page 5 before installing any side panels on a PSX or PDU.

IF you plan to install a Rack Expansion Bundle Kit next to a PDU or UPS, then a PSX/PDU side panel (ACDC1008, not included) must be installed on the PDU or UPS. A PSX/PDU side panel kit is

available from APC. Attach the ground strap (previously removed from the side panel) to the new PSX/PDU side panel.

Rear joining brackets for two 1070-mm enclosures

When joining two NetShelter VX (1070-mm) enclosures:

1. Remove the rear doors of the enclosures before you install the joining brackets.

Rear joining brackets for two 1070-mm enclosures

When joining two NetShelter VX (1070-mm) enclosures:

  1. Remove the rear doors of the enclosures before you install the joining brackets

See the instructions included with your equipment to remove the rear doors.

Do not remove the rear doors of the UPS, PDU, or XR Battery Cabinet

2. Use appropriate rear joining brackets. Orient the brackets so that the two round holes are at the top position, and the slots are located in the middle and lower positions. Use six M6 × 12-mm

screws.

Rear joining brackets and trim for 900-mm and 1070-mm enclosures

When joining a NetShelter VS (900-mm) to a NetShelter VX (1070-mm) enclosure, use rear joining brackets and trim.

Remove the rear doors of the enclosures before you install the joining brackets

See the instructions included with your equipment to remove the rear doors

1. Attach two trim brackets to the side of the enclosure. Align each bracket’s mounting hole with the bottom hole of the top and bottom set of holes (as shown) in the enclosure.

Use an M6 × 12-mm screw and a flange nut for each bracket. Use 1070-mm joining brackets for 1070-mm enclosures and 900-mm brackets for 900-mm enclosures.

The use of the top or bottom hole depends on the placement of the enclosures.

If the 900-mm and 1070-mm enclosures are switched (900-mm on the left and 1070-mm on the right), turn the 1070-mm joining bracket 180°, and attach it to the

top hole of the 1070-mm enclosure. Turn the 900-mm joining bracket 180°, and attach it to the lower hole of the 900-mm enclosure. Finally, turn the the joining trim 180°

Ceiling Panels

Types of ceiling panels and required hardware

The ceiling panels are configured in two different widths based on the size of the enclosures they span..

Ceiling panels are not intended to support weight. Do not use ceiling panels to support power or data cables

See the instructions that come with your equipment for proper installation of the ladders.

Preparing for ceiling panel installation

Install Plasti-Grommets into the tops of the equipment (two grommets per enclosure top).

Ceiling panel installation

1. Apply the ceiling panel gasket material to the edge of the ceiling panel that will face the door frame

Ceiling panel inserts

1. Remove the adhesive backing film from the panel frame; remove the protective plastic from both sides of the Lexan and carefully set the Lexan panel in place, pressing the edges firmly.

2. Attach the next ceiling panel securely to the previously installed ceiling panel. Use five M6 × 30-mm screws, ceiling panel brackets, and threaded ceiling panel brackets to secure the

panels at each connection point, as shown.

Door Frame and Door Installation

To attach the door frame to the end of the aisle:

1. Attach the door frame assembly to the equipment frames. Use five M6 × 12-mm screws and M6 flange nuts on each upright.

3. Attach the plinth blocks to the enclosures, using four M8 × 25-mm screws

Side Panels

Install the side panels at the ends of each row of the Hot Aisle Containment System.

Grounding side panels

Attach one end of a ground strap to the grounding stud on each panel, and then attach the other end of the grounding strap to a grounding stud on the enclosure.

APC offers an optional grounding kit (AR8390) for grounding an enclosure. na1334a
