What is the SIS Gateway and is there any technical data for it?

Substation Controller (SIS Gateway)

The database concentrator of industrial networks

Basic functionalities:

  • Protocol conversion: bi-directional interface between some serial type networks and an Ethernet network
  • Acquisition  of information from IED's (up to 128 IED's)
  • Database concentration: each TCP client (SCADA, PLC's, DCS, ...) connected to the gateway has it's own database to optimize it's needs.
  • Duplication of time tagged events from IED's for each TCP subscriber.
  • Availability of communication linked to Linux base and management of a redundant communication with the IED's and TCP Clients
  • Time tagging of information from IED's which does not offer this functionality.
  • Transparent mode with frame priority access from TCP client
  • File configuration tool for Gateway setting
  • Serial channels are independent and used in parallel (up to 16 serial ports)
  • Integrated web server, enabling access to communication diagnostics, internal variable status.
  • Simulated mode: RTU, Internal Database modification, Avalanche, control ...

New generation:

SISGW first generation has been provided for more than 20 years between 2001 and 2022.

In 2022 Schneider developed a new generation of SISGW with new components and latest Linux version. This SISGW-NG is available since 2023 and is a full plug&play retrofit solution to existing SISGW: same size, same functionalities, same configuration. Using the new generation, the replacement of a SISGW to a SISGW-NG is transparent for IEDs and TCP Client.
