Custom types save time when you have to update a lot of objects that are basically the same regarding their content and structure. You change one custom type and then all the instances attached to that custom type are changed at the same time.
The Custom Types feature consists of two parts: a custom type and one or many instances attached to the custom type. Using the custom type, you can edit many instances at the same time.
