Q: Where can I find the firmware to upgrade my meter's firmware
A: Go to se.com, search for "v3.1.0 Firmware and Associated Files". Select the files for the meter type you are interested in and download zip file.

Q: How do I calculate the SHA-256 File Signature?
A: Please refer to https://www.se.com/ww/en/faqs/FA414544/ for different ways to calculate the file signature.

Q: What software can I used to upgrade my meter(s)?
A: ION Setup

Q: What version of ION Setup can be used to upgrade a meter to V3.1.0 firmware?
A: Recommend using the latest version of ION Setup, here.

Q: What is the minimum version of firmware needed to upgrade a meter to V3.1.0?
A: V2.1.0

Q: Can I downgrade the firmware after upgrading my meter?
A: Meters with V3.1.0 Firmware can be downgraded to V3.0.0 firmware only. Cannot downgrade a meter below V3.0.0.

Q: Do I need to update the display firmware?
A: No new display firmware required when upgrading a meter from V3.0.0

Q: Does upgrading the meter remove onboard logs?
A: Yes, upgrading a meter will reset onboard logs. Be sure any desired logged information is stored outside the meter before upgrading the firmware.

Q: Does V3.1.0 correct modbus exceptions when one or more registers has N/A value?
A: Yes, V3.1.0 firmware is the recommended fix for V3.0.0 meters with this behavior.

Option Modules
Q: What new option modules are supported with V3.1.0 Firmware?
A: Fiber Ethernet and 4-wire serial option modules

Q: Does the meter support multiple 4-wire option modules?
A: No the meter supports a single 4-wire option module

Q: Does the meter support multiple fiber option modules?
A: No the meter supports a single fiber option module

Q: What happens if more than 1 fiber or 4-wire option modules are connected to a meter?
A: Fiber and 4-wire modules will show a solid red LED and IO modules will show a flashing red LED. All modules connected to the meter will become deactivated. An error will be reported in the onboard event log. ION Setup will display a persistent warning message until the unsupported configuration is corrected by the user

Q: When connecting 4-wire option module to meter, can I still use onboard com port(s)
A: For the ION7400 and PM8000, there is only 1 onboard com port, this port is replaced when 4-wire module connected. For ION9000, com port 2 can still be used, com 1 is replaced with the 4-wire option modules.

Q: What IEC61850 ICD file should I use for a meter with 4-wire and Fiber option cards.
A: Refer to the text document included with ICD files for more information. 4-wire and fiber option cards do not have a specific ICD version Only the digital and analog option modules connected to a meter determine what ICD file to use.

Templates\Frameworks

Q: Is there a new template\framework with the new firmware?
A: Yes the new template is included with the firmware install files.

Q: Where can I find the .dcf file for my meter
A: Template files are included with the firmware files from se.com

Q: Where is the MID template?
A: Standard and MID templates have been combined.

Q: Can V2.2.0 Templates be pasted on meters with V3.1.0 firmware
A: Yes meters are backwards compatible with older templates. Any changes with V3.0.0 templates are not included when pasting older templates.

Q: What changes to the template were made for WELMEC compliance?
A: “Pwr Up” Setpoint logic changed to generate an alarm on meter's display when meter first powers up.

Q: What changes were made to COMTRADE files?
A: Zero padding added to COMTRADE file timestamps
