How to replace the 9V battery on the Group 1 controller?

The 9V battery on the G1 controller takes care of preserving the engine exerciser schedule in the memory when both the normal and emergency sources are off. When the need arises to replace it, follow the steps outlined below.

  1. Prevent the transfer switch from operating by disconnecting one source first, then the other, as follows:
    1. If the transfer switch is in the Normal position, open the emergency source circuit breaker. Turn the engine starting control to off, then open the normal source circuit breaker.
    2. If the transfer switch is in the Emergency position, open the normal source circuit breaker. Turn engine starting control to test or run. Then open the emergency source circuit breaker.
  1. Disconnect both harness plugs from the controller by squeezing the latches. Do not pull on the wires.
  1. Remove cover from the controller by releasing the latch on the right side with your thumb.

  1. Remove the old battery and replace it with the new one. Note that for some older units, the battery holder material may have become brittle due to age. Take extra precautions not to break the holder as it is not sold separately.

  1. Install the cover on the controller by hooking it on the left side and latching the right side. Reconnect both harness plugs to the controller by aligning and pressing straight in until latches click.
  1. Close the enclosure door, then restore both sources:
    1. If the transfer switch is in the Normal position first close the normal source circuit breaker, then close the emergency source circuit breaker.
    2. If the transfer switch is in the Emergency position, close the normal source circuit breaker. The load will be automatically retransferred to the normal source. Then close the emergency source circuit breaker.
  2. Turn the engine starting control to automatic.
