How can we help you today?
How do you untag ports on a Modicon Switch when working with PRP configuration files?

The PRP configuration files set all ports on the MCSESM switch to VLAN 1. This ensures communication between the M580 CPU and the BMECRA31310 module, but this also means that only devices supporting VLAN 1 can be connected directly to the switch.

However, some customers may need a dedicated port for:

  • Troubleshooting
  • Connecting DIO or other devices that do not support VLAN tagging

In these cases, you can manually configure a port as untagged, by following one of the two steps below.

Modicon Switch Configuration Web Page

  1. Log in to the MCSESM web interface
    1. Default username: Admin
    2. Default password: private
  2. Search for VLAN Configuration in the configuration file text box.
  3. Locate the port you want to modify.
  4. Change the port setting from T (Tagged)U (Untagged).
  5. Click the check mark to confirm the change.
  6. Click Save Configuration.

PRP Configuration File

  1. Open the MCSESM PRP pre‑configuration file using Notepad or Notepad++.
  2. Navigate to the section for the port you want to modify.
    1. Ports are listed using the format 1/#, for example:
      1. Port 1 → 1/1
      2. Port 5 → 1/5
      3. Port 10 → 1/10
  3. Change the assignment from VLAN tagging 1 to no VLAN tagging 1.
  4. Save the file.
  5. Upload the updated configuration file to the MCSESM switch.
