What USB-to-RS485 or USB-to-RS232 converters should I use to communicate with ION or PowerLogic meters?
Issue
A user may want to use a software program to communicate to a PowerLogic or ION meter when ethernet is not an option.

Product Line
ION and PowerLogic meters.

Environment
ION Setup, Modbus Tester, DLF-3000

Cause
Many meters do not have ethernet as an option, or the ethernet option was not ordered, or the ethernet port is in use and cannot be disturbed.

Resolution
The commonly recommended USB-to-RS485  converter is the USOPTL4 by B&B Electronics. It works well with ION and PowerLogic products that have a 2 wire or 4 wire RS485 port.

The commonly recommended USB-to-RS232 converter is the USO9ML2 by B&B Electronics. It works well with ION and PowerLogic products that have either a DB9 serial port or dedicated terminals for for RS232..
