Prompt to Install Microsoft Silverlight when launching the PME Web Applications with the Microsoft Edge browser

Issue

When launching PME 8.x Web Applications using the Microsoft Edge browser, the user receives a prompt to install Microsoft Silverlight.

Product Line

Power Monitoring Expert 8.x
Note:  Starting in PME 9.0, Schneider Electric removed Silverlight from the Web Applications and replaced for different interfaces.

Environment

Web Applications

Cause

PME 8.x requires Microsoft Silverlight, which is not supported in the Microsoft Edge browser. Edge does not support plug‑ins, and therefore cannot run Silverlight.

Resolution

Use one of the supported browsers to access PME 8.x Web Applications.

Supported browsers (PME 8.x):

  • Internet Explorer 10 or 11
  • Mozilla Firefox 35 or later

Not supported for PME 8.x:

  • Google Chrome (does not support Silverlight)
  • Microsoft Edge (does not support Silverlight)

Important Notes:

  • PME 8.x is not Edge‑compatible because Edge does not support Silverlight.
  • Google Chrome also does not support Silverlight

Recommendation

If you are using an older version of PME, consider upgrading to the latest version for improved protocol support and security. For assistance with integration or upgrades, contact Schneider Electric Technical Support at: pmo-psup@se.com
