PUP is the "pick-up" of the fault. Often people mistake "PUP" as the pickup of disturbance recording, but this is incorrect because the disturbance recording is often configured with pre-trig cycles that are used to view the recording before the actual disturbance. "PUP" relates to the instantanious pickup of a protection function, input, control logic or any other condition that sends a tripping order to the CB. This information is very usefull when analyzing a comtrade file because it helps find the origin of a sepam trip and system shutdown.
