PowerLogic SCADA - No Waveform menu item present to view waveform captures associated with alarms in the project run time environment / webclient.

Goals and Symptoms

After having added a supported device type to a PowerLogic SCADA project, the Waveforms... menu item is not available when right-clicking on an alarm for a device in the run time environment Event Log.

Causes and Fixes

Note: This article assumes the device has been configured correctly to trigger a waveform capture during an alarm.
It is possible the device profile or alarm in the project have been configured correctly.
Follow the steps below to verify that the required parameters have been configured.

1 - Verify the device profile has been correctly configured.
For alarms tags configured to log waveforms on the device, make sure the device profile has the Waveforms option enabled.

PLSPE - Create Device Proflies

If Waveforms were not enabled, enable them and then save this device profile.
After having updated the profile go to the Set Up Project tab, Refresh the tags for that device, and Export the updated project information.

Note: If this device type already exists in your project, run the profile wizard to remove the existing device using the older profile and then add the device using the updated profile.

2 - In the Project Editor, go to System/Users.
Create a user account and specify a privilege level (for this example a Global privilege of 7 was specified).

Edit Users Window

3 - After adding the user, go to Alarms / Time Stamped Digital Alarms.
Find the digital alarm in reference to the alarm that will trigger the waveform capture.
Set the privilege field to the desired level. A user logged in of the this privilege level will have the ability to view the waveforms. Also confirm that Waveform, is present in the Custom filer 2 field.

If the advanced fields are not visible press the F2 key.

4 - Compile the project and start the Run time.
If an alarm has been triggered the alarm server should detect this and an event should be displayed in the Event log view.

5 - After some time, a waveform should have been downloaded. Verify that the Comtrade waveform capture files have been downloaded. Go to the folder containing the data. The default folder path is:
C:\documents and settings\all users\application data\schneider electric\powerlogic scada 7.10\data\<cluster>\<device type>\<port>\<device name>\waveforms

FE - File Path to waveforms

6 - Now that the presence of the waveform captures has been confirmed you should now have the ability to view waveforms associated with device alarms.
Login with a user that has sufficient privileges as configured above, right click on the device, view the Waveform… menu item, and view the waveform capture.
