Configure SER Template with Modicon TSX Quantum PLC with Monaghan Engineering SER/GPS modules
Issue
The SER software uses PLC template to configure the SER software to Retrieve the SER events from Modicon TSX Quantum PLC that has SER/GPS modules from Monaghan Engineering. It wasn't very clear how SER configuration template is matched with Concept PLC code for Quantum PLC.

Product Line
SER V7.x

Environment
N/A

Cause
Naming of the variables in the PLC code doesn't match the template and lack of explanation.

Resolution

This resolution is to establish the correct connection between the SER PLC template and the Concept PLC code.

Here is a typical screen cap for SER configuration template of PLC:
PLC detail page
The following parameters need to be configured:
1. Event First Register
2. New Event Register
3. Buffer Open Register
4. Reset Buffer Register
5. PLC ID Register
6. Event Record Format
7. Time Base
8. Time Quality

The Concept PLC code could be using different names for those parameters in PLC. Here is the typical PLC code looks like:
PLC sample

Here are the variables in Concept:
Concept variables

Some of the SER template parameters can be found from this variable list:
1. Event First Register (Need to further look at the SERoutputbuffer)
2. New Event Register (Need to further look at the SERoutputbuffer)
3. Buffer Open Register (SERBufReadyWord, Address 400750)
4. Reset Buffer Register (SERBufAckWord, Address 400751)
5. PLC ID Register (PLC_NUM, Address 400200)
6. Event Record Format (Need to further look at the SERoutputbuffer)
7. Time Base (Need to further look at the GPS_DataOut)
8. Time Quality (Need to further look at the GPS_DataOut)

Variables SERoutputbuffer and GPS_DataOut are structured data, they have more information for the SER template and can be find out when you expand them in Concept.

Here is the expanded SERoutputerbuffer
SER buffer definition

Please Remember that this variable starts with Address 400800, which means Plcnumber is 400800, and each INT/UINT occupies 1 register, so the address of NumberofEvents is 400802. BufferType is 2, which means the format of the events has 4 registers. First event starts at Events[0], which has address 400810.

Here is the updated SER template parameters after we analyzed the SERoutputbuffer variable:
1. Event First Register (Events[0], address 400810)
2. New Event Register (NumberofEvents, address 400802)
3. Buffer Open Register (SERBufReadyWord, Address 400750)
4. Reset Buffer Register (SERBufAckWord, Address 400751)
5. PLC ID Register (PLC_NUM, Address 400200)
6. Event Record Format (Buffer type, but it uses how many registers in each event as the value, in most of the case, should be 4, and it's buffer type 2)
7. Time Base (Need to further look at the GPS_DataOut)
8. Time Quality (Need to further look at the GPS_DataOut)

Now let's look at the GPS_DataOut variable:
GPS variables
Please be noted that GPS_DataOut starts at address of 400210. So EfbError is 400210, each INT uses one register, each REAL uses two registers. You can easily figure out that DayOfWeek has address 400211 and TimeQuality has address of 400236.

With the above information, we can further update the SER template parameters:
1. Event First Register (Events[0], address 400810)
2. New Event Register (NumberofEvents, address 400802)
3. Buffer Open Register (SERBufReadyWord, Address 400750)
4. Reset Buffer Register (SERBufAckWord, Address 400751)
5. PLC ID Register (PLC_NUM, Address 400200)
6. Event Record Format (Buffer type, but it indicates how many registers are used in each event, in most of the case, should be 4, and it's buffer type 2)
7. Time Base (DayOfWeek, Address 400211)
8. Time Quality (TimeQuality, Address 400236)

Please be noted, in the SER configuration template, the address format only take the register number, the register type information is eliminated, which is 4xx, 4xx indicates the register is holding register.

Then this is the parameters we need to put into SER Template for this particular PLC code:
1. Event First Register (810)
2. New Event Register (802)
3. Buffer Open Register (750)
4. Reset Buffer Register (751)
5. PLC ID Register (200)
6. Event Record Format (4)
7. Time Base (211)
8. Time Quality (236)

Disclaimers:

*Warning: Take backups of PLC code modifying them. Only personnel familiar with Concept and Modicon TSX Quantum PLC can make the change to the PLC code.
